Committees

Annapolis Roads has several committees and other groups active in the community. The board is authorized under the bylaws to name members to represent ARPOA in various regional organizations and to establish committees to oversee community needs, activities, and projects.

Committees in Annapolis Roads are created and dissolved at various times to meet the specific needs of the community at a particular time and for specific circumstances. Committees serve at the board’s pleasure, are answerable to the board, and are guided by policy statements from the board.

Active committees are expected to report at board meetings and other times as necessary. Below is a brief overview of the current committees. If you have talent, skill, or interest in any of these areas, please contact the committee members or board reps for more information on meetings and activities.

Communications

The communications committee is responsible for assisting the ARPOA Secretary in all outgoing communications to the community regarding ARPOA events, meetings, and important community-related information, helping ensure that communications are accurate, timely, and relevant.

The committee is responsible for maintaining the ARPOA website and continually updating and improving it so that it is the central information portal for residents of Annapolis Roads.

The communications committee always looks for enthusiastic community members to help with mailings!

Dock

The community dock is a resource that had long needed revitalization to better serve the community’s needs and support the community’s water-privileged status. In January 2014, the Board established a Dock Committee to assist the Dock Master. The objective was to return the boating complex to a fully functional and safe boating resource and to reestablish a nominal user fee to deter residents from abandoning derelict boats in limited rack space.

Since its inception, the committee has cleaned up and restored the existing boat storage racks, had boat owners claim their boats, and established a boat registration sticker system. A retaining wall was constructed and gravel spread to stabilize the shoreline. Filter cloth and gravel were added to the boat rack area. ARPOA installed a floating slot dock, cleaned and painted the storage shed for boat rack users, and added a porta-potty. In 2014, ARPOA was able to return the dock complex into a community asset that is now highlighted by real estate agents!

Infrastructure

The Annapolis Roads Infrastructure Committee is dedicated to managing and enhancing community infrastructure. The Committee evaluates the condition of existing infrastructure, prioritizes repairs, and proposes upgrades to ensure long-term functionality and resilience.

Land Use Committee

The Land Use Committee plays a vital role in shaping the future of Annapolis Roads by ensuring that our community’s development aligns with our values and environmental goals. The committee seeks to balance community needs with the preservation of our cherished natural spaces. We encourage community members to participate in discussions and share their insights as we work together to maintain the unique character of our Chesapeake Bay community.

Long Range Planning

The Long Range Planning Committee is dedicated to envisioning the future of Annapolis Roads. By gathering insights from community members, we aim to create a sustainable and vibrant environment for all residents. Our focus is on enhancing community engagement, preserving our natural beauty, and ensuring that the needs of our residents are met as we grow. We encourage everyone to participate in discussions and share their ideas, as your voice is vital in shaping our collective future.

Public Works

The Annapolis Roads Public Works Committee ensures that public works projects, including road maintenance, stormwater management, and neighborhood beautification efforts, are efficiently managed and in line with community standards. Through collaboration with local authorities and residents, the committee addresses concerns, implements improvements, and fosters a well-maintained, safe, and visually appealing environment for all Annapolis Roads residents.

Security

The Security Liaison is charged with coordinating with our off-duty police officer security force; implementing the community security plan developed in conjunction with our off-duty police officer security force and community law enforcement professionals; reviewing patrol reports; addressing community security concerns with our security force; and updating the community on security issues promptly.

Social

Based on feedback from listening sessions of the Long Range Planning Committee, whose lively discussions represented as many viewpoints as there were attendees, one consistent theme was the desire for more social activities to bring residents together for socializing, playing sports or engaging in group activities, or learning more about topics of interest through educational events. To implement this recommendation, the Board has recruited volunteers who will create the committee charter and begin the process of planning and executing a more robust social calendar.

Welcome

The Welcoming Committee is charged with welcoming, face to face, all new residents of Annapolis Roads. The new residents will be given a welcome package to include a copy of the ARPOA Directory, information regarding Annapolis Roads and contacts for the various committees and clubs in the neighborhood, plus coupons and information on services in the area.
