Message to the Community Regarding Traffic Safety:

On Monday evening (January 23^rd), the Board was made aware that a pet was struck and killed by a car along Carrollton Road. While details of the event and the identity of the owner have not been provided directly to the Board, we have notified our community secondary police officers. Without speculating about vehicle speed or other circumstances, the Board acknowledges that speed along our community roads is a safety issue. The Board has contacted the Anne Arundel County Police and the Traffic Safety Division will be deploying one or two speed awareness trailers.

With that said, traffic and road safety are community issues and need a comprehensive and unified approach. A large portion of our roads are privately owned and not county maintained. The Board intends to immediately stand up a Traffic Safety Committee to explore options for community and county-maintained roads and act as a single point of information with regards to county interactions. This will ensure the best use of individual resources and the best response from the County, who would need ARPOA input and buy-in regardless. The committee will be chaired by Linda Dodge, ARPOA VP, and former Federal Highway Administration Chief of Staff for Intelligent Transportation Systems and Director, Public Safety Program. Linda is also currently working on the Anne Arundel County Regional Traffic Safety Plan group, which is exploring traffic safety on County owned roads in our area.

Please Email me at Nkiley.Arpoa@gmail.com (mailto:Nkiley.Arpoa@gmail.com) to include your name on our committee list. We welcome anyone who would like to contribute time, ideas, or expertise to this issue.

In the meantime, please slow down and watch out for pets, people, and wildlife.

Nick Kiley (President ARPOA)
Please, take care. Be safe.
Best wishes on behalf of the Annapolis Roads Board of Directors,

Nick Kiley
President, Annapolis Roads Property Owners Assoc. (ARPOA)
